When there is no Internet coverage or regular human monitoring is readily available, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) deployment in a remote region is not plausible. Hence, we propose a communication system that uses an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to monitor and collect data from a WSN composed of low power IoT devices.
Internet of Things, Wireless Sensor Networks, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
In this context, we consider relatively less explored smart agricultural use case, in which low power IoT sensors deployment in a remote region. The monitored field is no assured Internet connectivity and is in a region where humans are hard to reach frequently. In general, the remote agricultural field requires intermittent connectivity via a drone at a reasonably low data rate compared to other applications such as virtual reality, smart city or smart health. The drone coordinates the data collection process from remote WSN and relays to the cloud securely for future use.
